There are many institutions that distribute magazines and I will look at three different institutions to decide on which one of them would be best for my music magazine.

I think the best media institution that would distribute my magazine would be IPC Media. IPC media don't produce many magazines and the one magazine they do is NME therefore they would have the time to focus on my magazine. Although both magazines would share a similar genre they both would have a different look so there wouldn't be competition between NME and Venue.

Some other media institutions would be:

• Bauer Media
• Future PLC

Bauer Media

Bauer Media is a large institution which produces many magazines world wide and so I think they wouldn't have the time to distribute another magazine. The magazines they produce are in the same genre as my magazine. Also the magazine which influenced my own is published by Bauer Media therefore they would have two similar magazines that would compete against each other.

Future PLC

Future PLC produces a range of magazines, however they focus on instruments and tutorials on how to. in comparison my magazine focuses on artists and bands and therefore this institution wouldn't be the best option.

Contents Page Final

This is my final contents page for my music magazine and I decided to add another image to the page so that there wasn't too much text. Also it makes it more interesting and gives my magazine a similar look to that of a Q Magazine which I have based my own on.

With my contents page I have added a picture and started to fill in the space by including information that would be seen on similar contents pages. There is still one or two things that I have to do before this page is complete.

I have started on my contents page for my music magazine and this is my progress so far. I have started by getting the basic structure done before I add any pictures and other information.

Front Cover Final

To finish my front cover of my music magazine I looked at what else could be included to make it complete and this is where I saw empty space next to the masthead and so i put in a pug to fill in this space but also adds to the codes and conventions of a magazine.

Continuing on with my front cover I have added more codes and conventions of a typical music magazine. I have added cover lines to show what my magazine includes which also fits in with the house style.

I have started again on my front cover for my music magazine in which I have changed some features. This is my progress so far and as you can see my main image has been changed to suit my genre of music. Also the headline is moved and the font style has changed to make it more appropriate and stand out better.

Questionnaire Analysis

As part of my research I made a questionnaire so that I could find out information that would help me for when I came to create my own music magazine. This give me further knowledge about music magazine and what people like about them. I asked 16 people to fill in my questionnaire.

The people that don't buy music magazines, thought that the magazines aren't interesting enough to buy them. Also some don't like the articles and others think that the price is too expensive.

Most people still read music magazines as a print but my research shows that some people use technology such as phones and the internet to read them. This shows a change in the way people read magazines as technology becomes more popular more people are using their devices to read the content.

I need to know how much people spend on music magazines as this would give me a guideline on what to price my own music magazine. Most of the people spend under £5 which is a reasonable price.

Masthead Questionnaire

Masthead Research

I  decided to research into magazine mastheads and look into what makes them stand out. These are some examples I found that draw my eyes to the magazine. Each music magazines masthead is very different and stand out from each other. NME for example their masthead is very big and bold and the use of red, white and black helps to catch the eyes of a reader.  

This will help me with my magazine masthead as I will make sure that my masthead is easily recognisable and stands out. I will make my masthead simple just like these examples are. I will make a questionnaire on what my magazine name should be called and the one which is most popular I will use as my masthead. 

Music Magazine front cover design

I have started to create a mock up of what my music magazine will look like using InDesign. I have planned the layout of what my front cover will consist of by placing boxes of where things will go. I am only at the beginning stages of creating my magazine. Below is a screen shot I have uploaded of my progress so far to show the plan for my music magazine. 

InDesign Introduction

I have been introduced into a new software called Adobe InDesign. This software is new to me so it took me a while to get used to some of the features but there is still some that I have to learn. It is similar to photoshop so there are features I already know how to use. I have included a youtube clip which shows an introduction into InDesign which helped me to use the software better.
